Princess Haya Award for Special Education starts its fifth cycle

Dubai - 15 September 2014: The Executive Committee of Princess Haya Award for Special Education has announced the commencement of its fifth Cycle. The Award will accept applications from all special needs centers in the UAE and Arab countries during the period from 15 October 2014 until 15 December 2014.


In this cycle, the Award intends to honor outstanding individuals and institutions in the special needs sector through more various categories according to high international standards.

The Award has amended these categories to start with outstanding specialists as the first main category that includes those who are on a daily contact with the children such as special educators, clinical/educational psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, IT teachers, music teachers, art teachers, special education supervisors.

The second main category covers the institutional excellence such as outstanding centers, applied institutional and individual researches, awareness campaigns, fundraising campaigns, marketing campaigns, websites, as well as outstanding initiatives.

Meanwhile, the outstanding management is the third main category and it includes directors/supervisors, board members, administration/finance employees, and support service employees.

The award also recognizes the outstanding families of children with special needs under the category of family excellence. Moreover, outstanding volunteers and institutional supporters from public and private sectors are included under the category of CSR excellence.

Mohammed Al Emadi, Head of Award Executive Committee explained that the criteria of the award nomination for this cycle has taken into account the technological development in Dubai government as the Award aims to keep up with the project of transforming Dubai into a “Smart City”.

Mr. Al Emadi also said: “the purpose of the Award is to promote excellence and advance the type of services offered to individuals with special needs and it also aims at acknowledging the tireless efforts of individuals working in the different fields, as well as encourages the public and private sectors to support excellence and enhance the type of services offered by these institutions,”

It is noteworthy that the number of applications submitted to Princess Haya Award for Special Education since its launch in November 2008 until 2013 has reached 665 applications from 11 countries, whereas the number of total winners 101 winners.

Launched in November 2009, Princess Haya Award for Special Education (PHASE) is the first initiative of its kind in the region. It targets the role models in the special needs sector through various categories according to high international standards. The initiative also aims to encourage people working in the special needs to excel and set higher service standards in all fields of special education.
